The Spencer Magnet "One Week at a Time"

For a small town newspaper, the Spencer Magnet is actually doing well in it's financial aspect. Every Wednesday the paper publishes the weekly news and distributes them with over 4,000 in it's circulation. Popularity has arisen to the idea of charging viewers online to view articles in certain magazines. In a farm based community this has not happened so far with the newspaper online.

When asking locals what they thought of the paper, many views were expressed. From the older folks it was said that the newspaper was basically perfect, covering stories both major and not. Farmers loved that the paper has stories on agriculture much of the time. High school students are even made front page news in the paper. But the issue of what the younger generation calls "old stories", many teens and twenty year olds do not read the paper. These stories are the ones mainly targeted at the older generation in the town.

Popularity among the online version of the newspaper is still low, but readers enjoy being able to view archives of the paper online.

Suggestions to the paper were to cover "younger" stories. One twenty year old suggested adding some more Louisville stories into the paper talking about how she may live in Spencer county but her home is Louisville. "If the community would get a way from it's small time views, the younger crowd would care more."
